Walk Away

Walk Away is the most recent piece I have written and recorded, and I am so thankful for the tremendous talents and professionalism of Carrie Ross on Vocals and Jay Setar on Percussion.

Thank you for your stellar vocals, Carrie. You just glided through each take.
As if it were easy!

And, Jay, your clockwork precision was just what was needed to relentlessly drive the piece to an inexorable finality…the heartbeat waiting for the body!

Walk Away is the culmination of a great deal of reflection and writing over the years.

I've put a lot of effort into it--meditated on it…comped to it…mumbled its first words…

I hope you enjoy it.

Walk Away

Before you walk away…I’ve got something inside, something to say.
Didn’t have to turn out this way.
Now nothing will change…
Nothing will change…
Nothing will change what I say.

Before you walk away…
If there’s nothing the matter, then why all the sad tears?
You know what I’m gonna say.
I fell in love, heard you say…You’d never walk away…

Before you go…
Will you toss your head the way you did
And throw your arms about my neck?
And whisper lies…
Things I’ll believe until the day I die.
I’ll never think to question why
You’ll never go away… When I know nothing gold can stay.

That night beneath her beams we made the holiest of vows.
The moon reflected worlds within our tears that wet the ground.
And promises, they lingered, pleading soft and plaintive sounds
To never leave and never go… and never let your heart grow cold…
And never lose the ones we love…and never hate this life we chose…
And never, no--Don’t stop believing.
And never, no--Don’t stop loving.

Before you go…
Will you toss your head the way you did
And throw your arms about my neck?
And whisper lies…
Things I’ll believe until the day I die.
I’ll never think to question why
You’ll never go away… When I know nothing gold can stay.

Now that I’ve said all I have to say,
I've got to keep living, bear the pain of forgiving.
Guess it had to turn out this way.
Now nothing will change what I’ve said.
She gently tossed her head…

Then she turned and she walked away.
She turned and she walked away.
